Cedar Rapids IA Chiropractors Help Upper Back Pain

Upper Back Pain In Cedar Rapids IA

What is Upper Back Pain in Cedar Rapids IA? Also known as the thoracic spine, the upper back is perfectly engineered to support the ribs, sternum, vital organs and the vertebrae below. Although fairly uncommon, upper back pain can cause serious discomfort and is typically caused by muscular and/or joint irritation or poor posture. In fact, one-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms throughout the year, likely caused by sitting improperly while working at a desk.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Those with Upper Back Pain in Cedar Rapids IA?

Chiropractic care can be a great way to manage and relieve swelling and pain caused by upper back pain. Routine chiropractic care provides patients with upper back pain treatment that's a safe, non-invasive, non-addictive alternative to prescription medications or over-the-counter pain medications (OTCs), which are commonly prescribed to patients to help them manage their pain and swelling.

Chiropractors deliver a gentle, non-invasive, non-addictive therapy, known as a chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic adjustments reduce joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine and other joints in the body in an effort to reduce inflammation and improve function of both the affected joint and nervous system. By increasing joint mobility and improving your nervous system function and spinal health, your body has the ability to better manage symptoms caused by upper back pain.

Your spinal column, made up of 24 independent vertebrae, is what allows your body to move, twist, and bend through every motion of your busy day. It also encases and helps protect the delicate central nervous system that controls and coordinates every muscle, tissue and organ of the body. This is why we believe the first step to an active lifestyle is a properly functioning spine.

When two or more vertebrae aren't functioning together properly, it is what many chiropractors refer to as a subluxation or a misalignment. These subluxations are actually joint dysfunctions that can cause you to experience pain, discomfort, decreased mobility, or many other symptoms and conditions. Joint dysfunctions often go unnoticed and can cause miscommunication between your brain and body.

Joint Dysfunctions in the spine may eventually lead to symptoms in other parts or joints of the body as well. These symptoms are your body's only way of letting you know something is wrong. Unfortunately, the absence of pain is not an indication of health. By the time pain and symptoms appear the problem may have been present for months, even years. The great news is that you can help prevent these types of symptoms and conditions with routine chiropractic care.

Simple, Safe, and Effective

An approach to health that any parent can be proud of. Parents and pediatric physicians alike, look to chiropractors to help establish a safe, natural, and drug-free foundation that can have immediate and long-term benefits to their child's health.

Many of you may be asking "But, why?". To help answer that, let's start with a simple anatomy refresher.

Like adults, children's spinal columns are made up of 24 independent vertebrae that enable them to twist, bend and move throughout the day. It also protects the delicate central nervous system that controls the body's ability to grow, repair and function at its best by communicating with every cell, tissue and organ of the body.

Subluxations of the spine, commonly known as joint dysfunctions, occur when two or more vertebrae become restricted and impede the body's ability to communicate with itself. Joint dysfunctions in a child can be caused by everyday activities throughout their development cycle.

Falls while learning to walk, championship wrestling with dad, lugging an oversized backpack around and staring down at their phones are all great examples of activities that put the body in situations that can negatively affect the spine and proper nerve communication throughout the body.

Chiropractors are trained to locate and correct joint dysfunctions by applying a gentle, targeted movement to the body's spinal column and extremities, where and when needed. This non-invasive technique is commonly known as a chiropractic adjustment, which according to the Mayo Clinic, is safe and complications are rare.
